Esterification reaction is a kind of very important organic reaction. Through this kind of reaction, a series of carboxylate esters can be synthesized. It can be used as plasticizer, solvent, perfume, pharmaceutical precursor and agrochemical. Most of the traditional acid catalyst is mineral acid and Lewis acid, these catalysts are not only used up after the treatment is too much trouble, corrosion of the equipment, and waste acid emissions on the environment causing serious pollution. The use of polymer catalysts for convenience, environmental friendliness, zero corrosion of equipment caused by domestic and foreign chemical industry and the special attention of catalyst experts, of which more research should be the development and application of cation exchange resin catalyst.
Ion exchange resin is a kind of synthetic functional polymer material containing reactive groups, which is made of cross-linked polymer copolymer with different nature of the ion exchange group formed by the use of cross-linked styrene-based copolymer, Acrylate type and epoxy type. According to the different synthesis techniques, can be made into macroporous structure or gel structure of the ion exchange resin. According to the nature of the introduction of groups can be divided into strong acid, strong alkaline, chelating, acid and alkali and redox and other varieties [1]. Ion exchange resin-based solid catalyst is mainly used in two ways of esterification catalysis, one is the use of ion exchange resin itself as a catalyst; the other is the commonly used catalyst supported on the resin, as a synthesis catalyst. In this paper, the application of these two types of solid catalysts in esterification is introduced, which will provide reference for the future development of new esterification technology and better catalyst for esterification catalysis.
